Three Feathers 2020 Madeleine Oregon Pinot Noir
Three Feathers 2020 Madeleine Oregon Pinot Noir is our first vintage of Pinot Madeleine. A rare, old-world clone of Pinot Noir, it is also known as Pinot Noir Précoce or Frühburgunder. This finicky grape has smaller berries and ripens a full two to three weeks earlier than standard Pinot Noir – read our article about the “Precoce” (or “precocious”) clone. While we use it to blend our Cuvée, our single-clone wine reveals the true gamut of this grape.
Awarded 90 points by James Suckling, this early-ripening single-clone of Pinot Noir presents a balanced acidity and long finish. Suckling’s tasting notes for this wine include ‘…sliced strawberry, citrus aromas and flavors, light hibiscus water and green strawberry flavors’. To add complexity and depth to this vintage we used 25% whole cluster – after chewing on the stems beforehand to assess their flavor! This wine is a unique high-altitude Pinot Noir which will accompany your vegetarian, poultry or fish dishes beautifully.

Pinot Madeleine Tasting Notes
This early-ripening clone of Pinot Noir presents a balanced acidity and long finish with notes of bramble-berry, raspberry, cherry and a touch of wilderness.
Vineyard Notes
2020 was an excellent growing season on Chehalem Mountains. Following bud break, we had dry weather for the next 10 weeks; the only rain came mid-September and harvest was sunny and clear.
The grapes are from our Torio Vineyard site at 1,200 feet in elevation.

You can follow the evolution of this unique Chehalem Mountains wine in the following year’s vintages. For example, our 2018 Reserve 667 and 2019 Pinot Noir are also made solely from Pinot Noir clone “Dijon 667” grown in Block One of Three Feathers.
