Description
Three Feathers 2018 Cuvée Virginia | Oregon Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes
The hot dry summer produced greater sugars, and more intense colors and flavors. We can definitely taste the black raspberries that were grown for many years at Three Feathers and the color is a deep garnet red. The wine is smooth and well balanced with a slight acidity at the finish. Three Feathers Cuvee Virginia is a wine for drinking alone or accompanied by red meats and will hold up well to rich flavors.
Vineyard Notes
Bud break was in early April this year, a full 4 weeks before previous years. The exceptional dryness pushed the sugars higher and flavors intensified. The two vineyards were picked a full two weeks apart so the blend was created after the wines were aged for six months. Selection for the Three Feathers Cuvee Virginia was made by tasting each barrel separately. The predominant clone is Pommard but there is also 667, 115, 777 and 828.
Winemaker Notes
The grapes were hand-harvested, sorted and pressed. The wine was kept in the vat for 21 days then barreled in neutral French oak for 10 months and bottled in late summer.
